Welcome Address By The National President Of Narto, Alh.(Dr) Kassim Ibrahim Bataiya (Durbin Albasu), At The Courtesy Visit Of Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, Corps Marshal/Chief Executive Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (Frsc) At Narto National Secretariat Annex On Thursday, 19th January, 2017

The Corps Marshal/CEO, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC),
Deputy Corp Marshals,
Senior Management Team of FRSC,
Members of NARTO National Executive Council,
Members of the Press,
Management and Staff of NARTO,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome in our midst the Corps Marshal/CEO of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and his team who is on a working visit to our Association. This is a great priviledge for which the entire members of our Association are grateful.

NARTO and FRSC have a mutually beneficial working relationship for a very long time now and this relationship has grown from strength to strength particularly, during your leadership. This Association would continue to commend your style of leadership which is characterized by inclusiveness and regular consultations with all stakeholders on all matters relating to road safety. Under your watch, your organization has made giant strides in the area of improved safety awareness, accident prevention and rapid response to emergencies and rescue operations.

Road Traffic Accidents pose a great challenge to the well-being of the citizens and the development of the country. This Association notes your continuous efforts to reduce the ugly phenomenon of road traffic crashes particularly those involving tankers and trailers throughout the country. The leadership of this Association will continue to co-operate with you to stem this ugly situation. At this juncture, however, I will like to use this opportunity to yet again call on the government through the Federal Ministry of Works to ensure quick rehabilitation of our Roads throughout the country. While not denying the effect of human error and recklessness, the bad condition of our roads is also a major factor that contributes to vehicle crashes in this country.

Our Association has always co-operated and supported you in your various accident preventions strategies such as the introduction of the retro reflective tapes on the body of tankers and trucks, installation of safety valves on tankers to avoid products spillage during accident, complying with requirements under the Road Transport Standardization Scheme (RTSS) and lately the installation of speed limiting devices on our vehicles. The Corp
Marshal Sir, I must admit that complying with these regulations required a lot of extra funding by our members in the face of difficult economic conditions in the country. As responsible citizens who are legitimately conducting their businesses, we believe that safety is important not only to satisfy extant regulations but for the survival of our businesses.

Finally, I will like to once again thank you for finding time to pay us this visit even in the face of other pressing National assignments. I thank the entire members of your entourage for this unique honour. We in NARTO will continue to remember this visit as a mark of our cordial working relations.

I wish you a happy return to your offices.

Thank you.

Signed:

Alhaji (Dr) Kassim Ibrahim Bataiya
National President.
