Lagos State Government has partnered with the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) to introduce 2,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks to modernize haulage and improve safety.
Following a private meeting with transport stakeholders, officials outlined plans to support operators’ shift from diesel to cleaner CNG vehicles, with financial backing from banks like UBA.
Safety reforms approved by Governor Sanwo-Olu include mandatory substance-abuse tests and vision correction for drivers, alongside phasing out old diesel trucks to reduce accidents.
NARTO leaders praised the government’s ongoing investments and federal support, including the provision of CNG buses. Discussions continue on pricing and fleet replacement to ensure safer, more efficient transport for Lagos residents.
